Long ago walls had painted signs. Walker Evans told many stories with his sign photographs. His signs now tell us about history of those times. Some are still there like this one shot on B+W film. I’ve look and photographed this before never quite right. A while back the light looked perfect, but was moving fast. I pulled out my Nikon put on a Red 25 filter and shot this image. The Red filter adds contrast but also makes reds lighter with more separation in the varied tones of the red brick. Hence the image I wanted was there. enjoy pjc

May 16th Third Thursday Willimantic
The first Third Thursday Street Fest had all the usual things, Great food, Art, Music, Smiles and sadness?
Thousands of folks attended and I was carrying a 480mm lens for this shot. Yes I do know what I want before I head out. The lens is heavy so rarely do I carry it for strolls. Image made breaking the rules at North St. looking into the sun, no hood. I ended up with an overexposed image exactly what I had planned. In PS I adjusted contrast darkened the image and over sharpened to create this graphic image of the crowd.
Here is an image of the colors of festivities more of my usual closer look stuff.
Mike Blommer plays with Fred’s Gospel Blues band. This image made moments before the first alarm that added sadness to the mix an unwanted visitor for this community.
At 7:15 I went to the Co-OP as I had planned to get some chips. There was a small crowd as it seemed that folks who could help were there and most of the rest stayed out of the way of the fire fighters who did a great job. Thank you very much to the devoted Fire Departments and the community.
