Well it is another 365 days and the world spins. I’m spinning back to an old image of my favorite Muse ever. This from our last session in Westerly RI. from the Layered Life Series. Many have seen this before? It is film it was back in the day’s of inspiration. Lately I’ve been reviewing the 1000s of images I have made and want to print. “Every Image You Make is a Self Portrait.” I look through the digital images I have made and don’t feel that connection. Oh well maybe in the new year? See you all in 2013 less frequently, for I will be posting from the Lib. as having cable internet is just too expensive for the return. Here’s to the New Year same as the old year. enjoy pjc
Below the Falls Mansfield Hollow B+W Film
Nikon F-1971 1999 at Mansfield Hollow Dam. Jump forward a couple years and I brought this image in to the class I was teaching at New London Adult Ed. It was one of the images I used to lead the discussion on contrast. Everyone wanted to know how I did it? How long did it take? Few asked about post process but it was 2001 so my class was filled mostly with film people. My answer was 1/125 second, most chuckled and said really? I explained that I knew where the light was time of day and went there found my spot and shot 1 or 2 images this one printed easily in the darkroom probably took less time than scanning and adjusting the scan to meet the quality of the print. My PS Elements 10 wanted a color profile for everything is color and many of the functions in post process don’t work in gray scale [B+W]. Black and White prints are not about color they are an emotional visual poetry. No artificial emotion in my PS. and no edge like film. enjoy pjc

December Texture Old Shed
As the days grow shorter and the texture rougher a metaphor for old age. Yet just a few days and the solstice arrives and a new age begins light, sweet emotional light to tell tales, inspire thoughts of spring at a couple minutes of of light each day. I know that warmth is months away but the light is what I am about. But I still miss the darkroom. enjoy pjc
